Butterfly Release Walk to Remember

It was an absolutely gorgeous day at our annual Butterfly Release Walk to Remember held on Sunday September 11, 2016 at Williamsburg Cemetery and Dedication Centre. We welcomed more than 200 people at this year’s event which is open to BFO-MR members as well as the community at large.

Upon arriving, guests were able to participate in our Wall of Memories, enjoy in refreshments and visit the beautiful Williamsburg grounds. Children were invited to participate in face painting courtesy of BreCreative and enter a draw for prizes donated by Mastermind Toys.

The opening ceremony kicked off at 2:15 where BFO-MR staff and volunteers shared welcoming remarks and readings, and we released butterflies in memory of everyone we lost this year. At 2:45, guests were invited to find a peaceful, meaningful space to release their butterflies in memory of their loved ones. Everyone was also welcome to participate in the Walk to Remember, the path of which was lined with signs in memory of loved ones, and inspiration quotes.

It was a truly wonderful day, and we are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share it with everyone who attended.

Thank you to the BFO-MR staff for their hard work and dedication organizing the event, and to our volunteers Bill, Julie, Janet, Teresa, Tami and Fiona who gave generously of their time to make it a special and memorable one. We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Williamsburg Cemetery and Dedication Centre for hosting us again this year, and for everything you do to make the Butterfly Release Walk to Remember possible. We couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you as well to BreCreative for the beautiful designs adorning our guests, to the Waterloo Region Record Community Partnerships Program for their support in helping us spread the word about this event in the community and to Mastermind Toys for their toy donations.

Please visit our Facebook page for photos from the event, and we look forward to seeing you again next year.
