Tree of Bright Stars

This annual event gives our community an opportunity to pause our busy lives and be intentional about creating time and space to honour our loved ones and the grief we’re feeling.

While the event takes place during the holiday season, it is not intended to be solely in commemoration of Christmas. The absence of a loved one may be felt more deeply during this time of year, no matter what religion or celebration you observe or practice. All are welcome.

We will not be proceeding with an in-person event again this year, but invite you to view our ceremony from home on Friday November 26 at 7:00 p.m.

The event video will feature opening remarks/reflections, a story of hope from one of our members and our Loved Ones Remembered slideshow.

This year’s musical performer is local musician Anna Wiebe. Singer-songwriter Anna Wiebe hails from Guelph, ON and writes thoughtful, delicate songs. Her songwriting stands alone, supported mainly by her resonant vocals and often accompanied by rich harmonies and simplistic folk instrumentation. Her sophomore album, All I Do Is Move (2019), provided more complex arrangements while maintaining a strong narrative voice. She is currently working with Hamilton musician and producer, Dan Edmonds, and plans to release a new collection of songs in the near future

How you can participate in this year’s Tree of Bright Stars event:

Dedicate an ornament in memory of your loved one. Hang it from a branch, on a window or feature it in another place in your home that has meaning to you.

This year’s ornaments include a star (featured colour is clear iridescent with purple accents), an angel and a cardinal. Names are handwritten on the stars and angel ornaments, while names for the cardinals will be written on a small tag. Clear engraved stars are also available again this year. Ornaments are $20 each and engraved stars are $35. Ornaments will be available for pick-up in Kitchener on November 24 and 25. More details to come.

ORDER DEADLINE: Friday November 12, 2021

PLEASE NOTE: You do not need to purchase ornaments to participate in this memorial event. You are welcome to submit a photo for our slideshow (details below) as an alternative.

Submit a photo of your loved one for our Loved Ones Remembered photomontage. Please follow the instructions and submit your photo(s) here. We recognize that not everyone has a photo of their loved one to share. You are welcome to submit a name to include instead.

PHOTO DEADLINE: Friday November 12, 2021.

(Photos received after the deadline will not be included).

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we will be offering a take-home memorial craft for children free of charge again this year. Place your order using the form below and the kits will be available for pick-up on November 24 and 25.
