Tree of Bright Stars

Thank you for your interest in the Tree of Bright Stars – REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED

The Tree of Bright Stars memorial event is an opportunity to honour the people in our lives who have died and to come together as a community during what can be an especially difficult time of year for people who are grieving.

We recognize the holiday season is likely to be even more difficult this year as we carry not only the grief associated with the death of our loved ones, but the grief that may accompany not being able to acknowledge the holidays with the traditions we are used to because of Covid-19.

That’s why we feel it’s more important than ever to connect, honour the people in our lives who have died and make time and space for the grief we are feeling. Even if we can’t gather in person, we can still come together and remember as a community.

We will not be proceeding with an in-person event this year, but invite you to participate in our online ceremony from home on Friday November 27. We will be sharing more information about what the ceremony will look like soon, but rest assured we are doing everything we can to make it as meaningful and beautiful as when we’ve gathered in person.

We are thrilled to share that three-time Juno-nominated artist Alysha Brilla will be our musical guest. We can’t wait for you to hear the beautiful selection of songs she will be singing.

How you can participate in this year’s Tree of Bright Stars event:

Dedicate an ornament in memory of your loved one. This year’s ornaments include a star (featured colour is red), an angel and a cardinal. Names are handwritten on the stars and angel ornaments, while names for the cardinals will be written on a small tag. Ornaments are $25 for your first ornament and $15 for each subsequent ornament ordered. ORDER DEADLINE: Monday November 16, 2020

Ornaments will be available for pick-up in Kitchener from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday November 24.

Submit a photo of your loved one for inclusion in our Loved Ones Remembered photomontage. Please follow the instructions here when submitting your photos. NOTE: We recognize that not everyone has a photo of their loved one to share. As such, you are welcome to submit a name to include in the slideshow.

We are also collecting messages of hope again this year that we will proudly include as part of this year’s online ceremony. If you have a wish or a story to share, please add your voice! Submit your photos/messages by clicking here. PHOTO DEADLINE: Monday November 16, 2020. (Photos received after the deadline will not be included).

We are excited to be offering a take-home memorial craft for children this year! The craft is provided free of charge to families who purchase ornaments. Just let us know in the order form how many you would like and the kits will be available for pick-up with your ornaments.
