Fall 2016 Program Registration

Healing Little Hearts Program ImageHealing Little Hearts: This 6-week program helps children aged 3-6 understand and cope with feelings of loss and grief after the death of a loved one. Dr. Nancy Riedel Bowers, R.S.W. & Ph.D., and colleagues run this program bringing over 25 years of clinical experience specializing in children’s play therapy.

Our sessions include discussion, stories and play-activities which explore themes, such as:

• Happy and sad times in our lives
• What makes us feel ‘ok’?
• Saying goodbye to our loved ones

A concurrent information session is held for caregivers to help them understand how children mourn and how to assist children in expressing their feelings of loss.

“My son started to talk about his feelings and I witnessed that he understood what happened to his dad.” – past participant

Registration and an intake are required for this program. The deadline for registration is September 16, 2016. Register online, or contact the office at 519-603-0196 or support@bfomidwest.org

Parents Grieving the Death of A Child ImageParents Grieving the Death of a Child: Our 8-week group offers a safe space to connect with other grieving parents, to share your story and to support one another through your loss.

“It was wonderful to connect with people who understand. Every week I could look forward to letting go and not feeling like I had to explain my feelings. I didn’t feel crazy. There is a comfort in meeting people who have gone through a similar experience.” – past participant

All of our groups are run by trained volunteers who are bereaved parents themselves. Our sessions include group discussion and theme-specific activities which explore different aspects of grief, such as:

• The Grief Process
• Coping with Special Days
• Men & Women and Grief
• Changing Relationships
• Returning to Work

There is no right way to grieve, there is only your way to grieve. Through our support groups we
hope that you will experience personal growth and learn the tools for adapting to your new normal.

All our programs are offered free of charge and made possible through the generosity of community donors and supporters.

Registration and an intake are required for this program. The deadline for registration is September 26, 2016. Register online, or contact the office at 519-603-0196 or support@bfomidwest.org
