Land acknowledgement

Bereaved Families of Ontario – Midwestern Region serves a region that is situated on the Haldimand Tract, land that was granted to the Haudenosaunee of the Six Nations of the Grand River, and within the territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabe, and Haudenosaunee peoples.

We have a responsibility to acknowledge and understand this history and the current experiences of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and for this understanding to inform the work that we do. We respect and honour their traditional knowledge and practices surrounding death, dying and grief and are committed to furthering our own learning to create safer spaces for all.

This land acknowledgement provides an opportunity for us to reflect on our relationship with the land and the continuous process of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
