What’s happening at BFO-MR?

As we embark on a new year, the Board of Directors and staff at Bereaved Families of Ontario – Midwestern Region would like to wish you the best for 2017. We are excited about what the year ahead holds for our organization and the community we support.

Strategic planning
A key priority over the next few months is finalizing our five-year strategic plan. This plan will plot our course, keep us on track so we can meet our objectives, and ensure the needs of the bereaved in our community are being met. To everyone who took the time to fill out our short online survey, we appreciate the feedback. It’s very important that our members, volunteers and supporters are and continue to be part of this important planning process. We look forward to sharing more updates as the plan is finalized.

Conference 2017
This year is a conference year for BFO-MR and we look forward to hosting an informative event full of insight, learning and practical tips. Our focus is children and grief and we are thrilled to welcome the Wallenstein Charitable Foundation and Henry Walser Funeral Home as the first sponsors for what promises to be an excellent conference. PLEASE NOTE: This year, the conference will be offered in the fall rather than the spring. Watch for more information about what’s in store, coming soon.

Facilitator training
In our last newsletter, we talked about our urgent need for volunteer facilitators for our programs for parents grieving the death of an infant and parents grieving the death of a child. One way we are working towards filling this gap is through offering our facilitator training twice in 2017. We recognize that the fall (when we traditionally offer the training) can be a busy time for people as they transition back into routines after the slower summer months. To offer more options and flexibility, this year we will also be offering our training in the spring. We will be formalizing dates soon and will share information as soon as it becomes available. If you are interested in taking our training, or if you have questions, please contact the office at 519-603-0196 or support@bfomidwest.org.

We’ve moved!
Just a reminder that we have moved offices. We are still at The Family Centre at 65 Hanson in Kitchener, but we are now located in Room 1042 on the first floor. If you stop by and aren’t sure where to go, the friendly staff at front reception will gladly direct you.
